Dear Fereydoon - If I or themillions of Americans who want to see Iran could halt business dealings with Iran, for the sake of freedom, we would. I know the Iranian people would be up to the challenge, if they knew an embargo would affect liberation. There are signs this is happening. I am keeping abreast of many reports and activists here are leaning on companies (especially in the communications field) who have provided the means for jamming broadcasts and intercepting information coming out of Iran. After the speech yesterday, I was heartened to see more Iranians from the provinces among the demonstrators. Iranians must stop spending money and trade more among themselves. Not buying anything other than necessities is an effective form of protest as well. Gandhi employed this method as a means of gaining independence from Britain. If Iranians organize against companies selling in Iran, and Americans organize against them as well, it will have an effect. Demonstrations get the word out, but passive resistance must become the next priority. Ghandi’s model is ideal. The people must bring the country to a halt economicaly. Study the Ghandi model. Remember too that as your government seems immovable, so does ours. We, like you, want change in the way our government deals with dictatorships. Believe me, there is great frustration with the situation here. Sanctions and embargo ARE the way to go. We all know it. Whether the world will come forward and match the courage of Iranian conviction remains to be seen. I DO know that because of the information coming from the underground reporters in Iran, Americans have a new view of the Iranian people. It is a good one, and it came from person to person communication, not the mainstream media or diplomacy. This is of supreme importance. The people have circumvented the political quagmire, found common ground and created an admirable and respectful human bond. Beyond the tragedy of the deaths of Neda and the other protesterd, it was very foolish of the leadership to sanction violence against the population. That decision galvanized the people against the regime. The same hold true for the leaders of other countries. If they waver from what should be done to assist the people of Iran, there is shared culpability and erosion in THEIR power base. This is a pivotal time for the Middle East. As the world turns more toward the developement of alternative fuels, the use of oil as a political and economic bartering chip will wane. All of us will then be left with dealing with each other on an interdependent, human level. Neda’s tragic death is the clarion call for that work to begin.

The fact of the matter is however, the majority of Iranians living in Iran just “WATCH” and take pictures of Nedas of Iran who innocently and naively go to the front line to take the bullets and batoons of Basijies and the Arab merceneries who have been brought by the regime to shut the voice of voiceless. If the world is really interested in democracy in Iran, and if they are interested in the well being of Nedas of Iran, all we ask for support is really very simple and that is to STOP all relationships with the Islamic regime that is holding the nation of Iran as hostage at gun point. STOP buying Iran’s oil, and the world will cut the cash flow to this brutal regime. If the world does really care about humanity and democracy in Iran, then we (the Nedas of Iran) say to the world: Spare us your nice words, and spare us your humble statements of sympathy with us, and instead simply cut all financial relationships with this regime. It is sort of like a bunch of terrorists have taken a plane full of innocent people as hostage, and every other day they just kill a passenger. Regimes come and go, because segments of the population force change - not because every citizen chooses it. Passivity may mask terror, but it may also mask nobility and a more thoughtful approach to change. Surely, when under duress, people will turn to what they CAN do and use those small freedoms to soothe the ache of what they CANNOT do. Neda is the symbol of a familiar horror that no one wishes to accept or admit, yet there she is. Dear Elizabeth, The majority of Iranians are peaceful loving people. In no way form or shape the regime of theocracy and evil represent the majority of Iranians. At the same time this same majority is (and for the lack of a better term) passive that nothing can really move them to voice their views publicly. I guess that is mainly because this evil regime just like how the Nazies did to the Jews have put the fear into their eyes that they dont dare to say a word against the regime. When Nedas of Iran who so naively and innocently thinking with their protests they can bring a change by making the mass majority not be passive anymore and in the process they end up losing their lives, the majority simply observes and does absolutely NOTHING. In a sense they betray their own children and instead of joining them to ask for freedom and democracy they just sit on the side and so selfishly want Nedas to do the dirty work for them. If the world had acted against Hitler from the outset, millions of lives would have been saved. With that as an historical foundation, the world has an opportunity to get it right this time. We as a planet have to resist the kind of barbaric behavior being unleashed on the citizens of Iran. The regime should be chiseled away from the bottom up…until nothing but democracy and self-determination remains. Anyone supporting the regime should know in very certain terms that their hands are as bloody as the murderers themselves if they continue to do business with, or act in concert with the dictates of the men currently at the top. Dear Fereydoon - If I or themillions of Americans who want to see Iran could halt business dealings with Iran, for the sake of freedom, we would. I know the Iranian people would be up to the challenge, if they knew an embargo would affect liberation. There are signs this is happening. I am keeping abreast of many reports and activists here are leaning on companies (especially in the communications field) who have provided the means for jamming broadcasts and intercepting information coming out of Iran. After the speech yesterday, I was heartened to see more Iranians from the provinces among the demonstrators. Iranians must stop spending money and trade more among themselves. Not buying anything other than necessities is an effective form of protest as well. Gandhi employed this method as a means of gaining independence from Britain. If Iranians organize against companies selling in Iran, and Americans organize against them as well, it will have an effect. Demonstrations get the word out, but passive resistance must become the next priority. Ghandi’s model is ideal. The people must bring the country to a halt economicaly. Study the Ghandi model. Remember too that as your government seems immovable, so does ours. We, like you, want change in the way our government deals with dictatorships. Believe me, there is great frustration with the situation here. Sanctions and embargo ARE the way to go. We all know it. Whether the world will come forward and match the courage of Iranian conviction remains to be seen. I DO know that because of the information coming from the underground reporters in Iran, Americans have a new view of the Iranian people. It is a good one, and it came from person to person communication, not the mainstream media or diplomacy. This is of supreme importance. The people have circumvented the political quagmire, found common ground and created an admirable and respectful human bond. Beyond the tragedy of the deaths of Neda and the other protesterd, it was very foolish of the leadership to sanction violence against the population. That decision galvanized the people against the regime. The same hold true for the leaders of other countries. If they waver from what should be done to assist the people of Iran, there is shared culpability and erosion in THEIR power base. This is a pivotal time for the Middle East. As the world turns more toward the developement of alternative fuels, the use of oil as a political and economic bartering chip will wane. All of us will then be left with dealing with each other on an interdependent, human level. Neda’s tragic death is the clarion call for that work to begin.

The fact of the matter is however, the majority of Iranians living in Iran just “WATCH” and take pictures of Nedas of Iran who innocently and naively go to the front line to take the bullets and batoons of Basijies and the Arab merceneries who have been brought by the regime to shut the voice of voiceless. If the world is really interested in democracy in Iran, and if they are interested in the well being of Nedas of Iran, all we ask for support is really very simple and that is to STOP all relationships with the Islamic regime that is holding the nation of Iran as hostage at gun point. STOP buying Iran’s oil, and the world will cut the cash flow to this brutal regime. If the world does really care about humanity and democracy in Iran, then we (the Nedas of Iran) say to the world: Spare us your nice words, and spare us your humble statements of sympathy with us, and instead simply cut all financial relationships with this regime. It is sort of like a bunch of terrorists have taken a plane full of innocent people as hostage, and every other day they just kill a passenger. The world sees this and it pretends it cares about the passengers, and yet they continue to supply the terrorists with gas, food and bullets and guns! If the U.S (which in the eyes of Nedas of Iran) is the hope for this planet and the European nations who enjoy their democracy do really care about the people of Iran (and in particular the Nedas of Iran) then STOP dealing with this Islamic regime, STOP buying Iran’;s oil which has been stolen by this illegitimate Islamic regime till the legal owners (i.e. the people of Iran) are freed to take control of their oil and other national treasures. Yes, Elizabeth from the U.S of A, if your great nation does care about humanity and democracy in Iran then STOP buying Iran’s oil, and start putting this regime in total absolute economic isolation. Instead what your great nation represented by President Obama is doing is to send personal letters to Khamenei and his gang of devils to sit down to talk to see how U.S can please the regime in return for nuclear freeze or whatever else. Yes, Elizabeth from the good old U.S of A, tell your government to cut all relationship directly or indirectly with this regime and to ask other civilized nations do the same. This is all the Nedas of Iran are asking - nothing more, nothing less.

Fereydoon - There is an old expression, “You have not converted a man, because you have silenced him”. Regimes come and go, because segments of the population force change - not because every citizen chooses it. Passivity may mask terror, but it may also mask nobility and a more thoughtful approach to change. Surely, when under duress, people will turn to what they CAN do and use those small freedoms to soothe the ache of what they CANNOT do. In time, when the small things they CAN do disappear, their choices are made more clear. Democracy and self-determination are hard won, if ever won and it is difficult to maintain after it is won. The world is witnessing the birth pains of democracy in Iran. It is difficult to witness the harder and more cruel elements of it, but having begun - it will not cease until the goal is met. If anything, Neda’s death should stand as a warning to those who remain fettered by intimidation. Her death is their future if the country remains on it’s course. They too may become target practice when they walk here or there, speak against some small affront, or complain about even the most common discomforts. It must not be forgotten that German citizens were jailed, beaten into submission; robbed of it’s intellectuals, clerics, culture and personal independence - long before the final solution was imposed upon the Jewish people. Such is the progression of despotism. This time, because of the courage of Iranians who continue to film and report of the savagery, the world is coming to know, in an intimate way, the anatomy of the resurgence of a familiar political disease. Neda is the symbol of a familiar horror that no one wishes to accept or admit, yet there she is. Each one witnessing that death stands on the threshhold of a decision that will define their humanity and go with them when their course through this life ends. Neda wanted to sing, travel, marry, raise children, expand her intellectual horizons. According to the regime, wanting these things is a crime punishable by death. When the greater number grasp the full import of that view, passivity will erode. Be patient. Trust in your countrymen. History and the human heart, mind and soul are on your side. Above all, do not lose compassion or respect for the silent majority. You cannot know all their hearts or minds. You CAN know that none of them wish to be in Neda’s grave with her.

Dear Elizabeth, The majority of Iranians are peaceful loving people. In no way form or shape the regime of theocracy and evil represent the majority of Iranians. At the same time this same majority is (and for the lack of a better term) passive that nothing can really move them to voice their views publicly. I guess that is mainly because this evil regime just like how the Nazies did to the Jews have put the fear into their eyes that they dont dare to say a word against the regime. The continue living their daily lives like a bunch of lamb. When Nedas of Iran who so naively and innocently thinking with their protests they can bring a change by making the mass majority not be passive anymore and in the process they end up losing their lives, the majority simply observes and does absolutely NOTHING. In a sense they betray their own children and instead of joining them to ask for freedom and democracy they just sit on the side and so selfishly want Nedas to do the dirty work for them. Yes, Elizabeth the mass majority of Iranians are a bunch of selfish, self-centered individuals who do not care about anything but themselves, how to get a nose job, or dress to go to parties, and…… Yes, Elizabeth, we (and I do include myself) no longer have any hope for freedom but just to wait for a miracle to happen to free them from the devils lead by Khamenei and his gang of characters who are really the occupiers of our country. The majority of Iranians do not deserve Nedas of Iran for they are a bunch of back-stabbers who with their own silence have and continue to betray Nedas of Iran (who also happen to be their own children). Many Americans have developed an opinion of Iran based upon communications from our mass media. Our two governments have, through their relations and words, attempted to seperate the people of both countries. When I saw the silent demonstration by thousands of people after the election, my estimation of the Iranian soared to the heavens. I thought, “What fine and noble people these are!” As the days passed, I continued to follow events in Iran very closely. Then, the murdering and beating began. My estimation of the Iranian people further soared. I came to realize that I am Iranian too. I have the same hopes and desires that everyday Iranians have. I want to live in peace, voice my opinion, come and go where I wish, educate my children with a sense of fair-mindedness, expect equal justice under the law, feel secure in my little bed when I go to sleep at night. Then, Neda was murdered. Soon after, I was Neda too. As the government began raping and pillaging the people of Iran, I realized it was the beginning of the end of the regime. It is the same with all such dictatorships. They crush and repress until the people realize they outnumber their aggressors. If the world had acted against Hitler from the outset, millions of lives would have been saved. With that as an historical foundation, the world has an opportunity to get it right this time. We as a planet have to resist the kind of barbaric behavior being unleashed on the citizens of Iran. The regime should be chiseled away from the bottom up…until nothing but democracy and self-determination remains. Anyone supporting the regime should know in very certain terms that their hands are as bloody as the murderers themselves if they continue to do business with, or act in concert with the dictates of the men currently at the top. I wish the Iranian people strength, perseverance, wisdom, success and friendship. There is responsibility for every drop of blood spilled. If that responsibility is not assumed now, it will irrevocably come later. God is great!!!!
